In this reflection I will discuss how the Navigate module has prepared me to meet the iNacol, the International Association for Online Learning, publishes Standards for Quality Online Teaching below:
The Navigate module prepared me to meet Standard B by having me explore LMS trends and the history of LMS. In Navigate 2 - Tools for Deciding on an LMS, we look at the tool embedded in LMS. I love Brightspace was LMS that most of the lesson was focused on. Having experience with at least one LMS makes understanding the tools easier. It is important to stay current with new technologies by being exposed to other LMS like in Navigate 3 - Course Creation within LMS. The module also addressed Standard I during the lesson called. Navigate 3 - LMS Reporting. The video link was broken but I knowing Brightspace helped me to answers the questions related to the lesson. I think a big take away for me is to continue using the data reports to help modify my lessons. Looking at the item analysis is very useful to understand what the students are struggling on. Standard K was address in Navigate 3 - Course Creation within LMS. It is important for online teacher to understand what the process is like to create content for the students. By understanding how to create course content, teacher are able to be better at engaging students and meeting the needs of an online learner. Navigate 2: Roles: Learning Management System and Student Information System was the most beneficial to me as it helped me understand the difference between LMS and SIS. I think I am more interest in designing a SIS that integrates with several learning management systems.

Before I started teaching online I was a Subject Matter Expert. I wrote and organized the entire Advanced Math Decision Making course. It was my job to find the content and create the related assessments. It was a very rigorous and stressful experience. The biggest challenge for me was related to copyright concerns. In a face to face class, you may pull from all sort of resources to deliver the content. Online content must follow copyright laws and you may not used graphic from published sites. https://students.ga.desire2learn.com/d2l/home/386848 Since I use Brightspace/D2L for two instructions and have used Moodle for another, I decided to create my course using Canvas. The first steps after selecting create a new course was to allow you to create a new module or import a course. The import content step had multiple content type options. Unfortunately I was not clear on how to import the DC Tool Test zip. I tried a couple of options. It is very important to follow the steps as it is not easy to figure it out. I tried to import the zip three different ways. The last two ways failed! I am not sure why but I do know I have created course pages for years so…https://canvas.instructure.com/courses/1171306 Also tried to import to the https://www.myhaikuclass.com/ and experience the same issues. The zip file would not successfully. I did like how the site would email you when the import was complete.
The general steps are:
The major tool categories are student administration, instruction, content, communication, assessments, evaluation and feedback, analytics, learning object repositories, and ePortfolio.
The most relevant features offered within an LMS are discussion and dropbox, They are also directly related to effective online instructions. The discussion forum is used as a way to connect with classmates. It is a way to make the virtual class seem like a classroom. The dropbox is needed to help teachers teach effectively. The feedback comments attached to the submitted items are essential for student growth. Brightspace offers several analytics reports. The reports are at the student level, teacher level, course level and program level. Each level is useful for different reasons. As an online instructor the most valuable report for student performance is course item reports. The reports show me which item I need to review or modify the question for the students. It also shows which topic overall I need to revisit for preparing for the final exam.
Mobile Learning Mobile learning will impact learning in great ways due to the use of smart devices. As smart devices becomes more common and more availability, students will be using them as a primary option. Most apps are making mobile friendly sites to allow for more usage. Students are using mobile device to read ebook, watch presentation and take assessments. Mobile learning will be essential part of online learning. The benefits outweighs the risk of students cheating with the device.

As a GAVS educator, I have access to Adobe Connect. I like to use the Adobe Connect application to review for standardized assessment and teach mini lessons. Adobe Connect Overall, Adobe Connect is easy to use and does not present any problems. The experience using the synchronous learning tool was engaging; the application has several embedded features. I like to use the many features include playing music and taking polls. It can be challenging to determine which features to use meaningfully with a low number of participants. Here is an example of a recorded session: http://gavirtualschool.adobeconnect.com/p5ja0er4q84/ Synchronous Learning help to enrichment and deepen the learning experience for multiple learning styles. #General Reflection
